Ways You Should Redesign Your Office

Posted on

Given budgetary restraints, businesses are usually more focused on using the money they do have for better serving their customers and are less focused on interior design. However, if it is time for a renovation, there are small changes that an office can make that will make it appear more professional and many of the changes you can make will also improve productivity.

Replace Your Desks

Consider replacing the desks you currently have with more ergonomic desks that also provide a sufficient amount of workspace. Since no two workers are alike, choosing furniture that is highly adjustable will allow workers to adjust their furniture to the perfect height. Also, as your office needs have changed, the interior design of your office will also change. For example, as your office implements more technology, you may need extra places to hide cords.

Improve Your Reception Area

Governments are increasingly trying to provide better customer service and to send the message that they operate efficiently. One way to send this message is to have a clean, inviting, and welcoming reception area. The reception area should be clear regarding where visitors should go.

Workplaces that are appealing to the eyes are not simply a splurge, but can also improve productivity by reducing stress. By making the workplace more pleasant, workers will not be as stressed out about working in the office.

Focus On Efficiency

Interior design decisions that improve worker efficiency are worth their weight in gold. More efficiency equals less subcontracting and less of a need to hire more employees. Consider shadowing employees to understand what their typical workdays are like. Look for situations where there are bottlenecks. One common problem is where there are several desks bunched together. Then, it can be more difficult for employees to get to and from their desks.

Another common problem is when employees have jobs that are collaborative, but the government office is setup in a way that keeps employees too far apart. If employees have to keep walking down the hall to discuss projects, you may need to design the office to place your employees closer together.

Also, look at unproductive activities with an open mind. If your employees frequently meet for coffee, this could be simply because they need a space where they can discuss work. By creating a space where employees can meet at work, with a coffee pot available, they are less likely to leave the office and use up time. After these considerations, if you are still having a difficult time determining how you should redesign your office, consider getting an interior designer.
